From tranquil beaches and prime surfing to fantastic museums and abundant historical beauty, Puerto Rico never ceases to amaze despite its modest size and easy navigability. Here are but a few recommendations for any touring you may have in mind (a good Tumbao on the radio, sunglasses ready): One of our personal favorites is El Yunque, the mystical and ancient rainforest located near Rio Grande. Sometimes called "the lung" of the island, this verdant national treasure is sure to please. Towering and luscious plants beckon you into another time and hidden waterfalls wait in the distant call of strange birds; makes you wonder where music started, really. Continuing east you will arrive at the coastal town of Fajardo. This is the departure point for ferries traveling to Culebra and Vieques, two of the most celebrated and magical small islands off of Puerto Rico's eastern shore. |
